Kashkaval Sliced Cheese 400 g – mild, savoury and great for melting

Yayla Kashkaval Sliced Cheese is a pasta filata cheese made from cow's milk and a staple of Turkish and Balkan cooking. It has a mild, savoury taste, slices easily, and turns soft and stretchy when heated. The 400 g pack is handy for breakfast, toasties and oven dishes.

What is Kashkaval cheese?

Kashkaval (Turkish: Kaşar) belongs to the pasta filata cheeses. The curd is kneaded and stretched in hot water, just like mozzarella. This gives the cheese its smooth, slightly elastic texture and makes it melt well. Our Kashkaval Sliced Cheese contains at least 45% fat in dry matter and is made from cow's milk, salt, microbial rennet and lactic acid bacteria.

Using Kashkaval cheese: ideas for the kitchen

  • Toasties: place slices on flatbread or toast and cook in a sandwich maker or a pan until golden brown.
  • Breakfast: cold in slices with olives, tomatoes and cucumbers.
  • Baking: for gratins, pizza, pide or vegetables with a cheese topping.
  • Fillings: in strips or grated for savoury pastries.
  • Egg dishes: melted into an omelette or scrambled eggs.

Baking and pan-frying Kashkaval

Kashkaval is suitable for baking in the oven and for pan-frying. Over medium heat it turns soft and creamy without drying out. Unlike halloumi, Kashkaval does not hold its shape but melts. That makes it especially good on toasties, pide and in bakes, and less suited as a grilled cheese steak.
