Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Caramelized Onions

3 slicestoast bread
4 slices Yayla Gouda
1-2 tbsp Yayla butter
1-2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt

Preparation

Slice the onion into thin half-moons. Heat butter and olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onions, sprinkle with salt and cook for about 15 minutes until soft and translucent. Add sugar and let caramelize slowly over low heat for about 20 minutes. Set aside.

Place one slice of toast on a board and top with one slice of Yayla Gouda. Spread half of the caramelized onions on top and add another slice of Gouda. Place the second toast slice on top and repeat to create a triple-layer sandwich.

Bake the sandwich in a preheated oven at 180°C fan with grill function for about 10–12 minutes. Alternatively prepare it in a pan or sandwich grill. Brush with some Yayla butter during baking for extra crispiness. Serve warm and enjoy!
